Jan Bean
Jan Bean serves as a passionate advocate for those who are suffering in some of the most volatile and harsh regions of the world. She seeks those who will join her in making a difference for others through forming and encouraging strategic partnerships with indigenous ministries currently operating in North and West Africa.
Having served for two years as Area Director for Africa and the Middle East with another compassion agency, Jan, along with Beth McMillen and a growing network, have launched an endeavor of their own – Compassion Corps – whose primary focus is to engage hearts and unleash hope for the least loved. Jan strives to mobilize others in North America to become wholeheartedly involved in serving others in some of the world’s hardest places. Her gifts of leadership, administration, and teaching, along with skills in research and language fluency are put to use as she serves as an activist and an activator.
Over the past thirty years, Jan has had opportunity to work in many and varied roles, among them: campus and community ministry, home school mom and co-op developer/director; foreign language teacher and curriculum specialist; short-term trips coordinator. Serving in church ministry alongside her husband during his twenty-year pastorate, she developed women’s curriculum and left a legacy of ongoing transformational ministry. Recent association with Arab World Ministries helped Jan to acquire training in Islamic studies and preparation for compassion ministry to the Muslim world, and further initiatives gave her extensive field experience in Africa.
Compassion Corps exists to help others imagine the good that can be done if compassion is harnessed. Jan has devoted herself to that end, and with particular concern for oppressed women and children, she has developed workshops and retreat presentations, which include:
- Worlds Apart…A Story of the Heart
- Ordinary Women: Extraordinary Impact (stories of women of courage in the hard places)
- Compassion: Building Bridges of Love
Jan has been married to Craig Bean for 31 years and they have six children ranging in age from 17-30, a daughter-in-law and a new grandson. Craig serves locally as Minister of Congregational Life at Media Presbyterian Church, and globally through the US Center (Clarion Consulting) working with international workers to help them make their best contribution for the good of others. In these positions of service and influence, Craig and Jan, who is also a trained consultant, strive to help teams and individuals find ways and resources to work most effectively in community. Their hearts’ desire is that their lives will be well-spent in bringing hope and healing to many others.
