Gwen Flasinski joined staff in September, 2013, as CC’s Information Technology (IT) Operations Specialist. Originally from West Chester, PA, Gwen is quite familiar with the area. However, she currently resides in Silver Spring, MD, where she works nearby as a Systems Analyst for the University of Maryland, College Park. After obtaining her degree in Computer Science from UMD, Gwen became more involved in a local church, where she continues to serve as a youth group leader as well as play saxophone at weekly services.
Gwen has a true servant’s heart, and can often be found fixing various appliances, computers, or other forms of technology for people. Gwen’s first taste of Compassion Corps made perfect use of this gift: on the Summer 2013 Liberia trip, she was able to repair and set up computer labs, fix software issues on a few computers, and do some individual and classroom training on general office computing. In addition to her technical skills, Gwen’s gifts for being helpful and versatile are clear. These traits were essential to the team this summer–she’s amazing at hands-on projects (she helped construct a fence for a children’s home!), playing just about any sport, and eating chicken and pineapple (thus, Gwen was quite thrilled with Liberian cuisine).
In her spare time, Gwen can be found spending time with friends, drinking Mountain Dew, and playing video games (and often, all three simultaneously). Gwen is always up for meeting new people, enjoys taking things apart (from Scripture to her Grand Marquis), and makes renowned Christmas cookies.
Gwen is excited about her new role with Compassion Corps, as she has been eager for some time to use her technical knowledge to serve others outside of the workplace. CC is equally grateful for Gwen and the unique skill set she brings to the staff team!
